Staybridge Suites – Tucson Arizona: Honest Hotel Review

When I was visiting Tucson, Arizona, I stayed at the Staybridge Suites for four nights, doing day trips and exploring the area. Here is my review of the Staybridge Suites near the Tucson International Airport — let’s begin!

Staybridge Suites Tucson Arizona Location

This hotel is very close to the Tucson International Airport — it’s only about a two minute drive. There are a lot hotels in this area, but there aren’t a lot of restaurants or things to do. That said, I liked this area — it felt safe and I thought it was a decent location for visiting the area attractions, such as Saguaro National Park, the Pima Air and Space Museum, Gates Pass for sunset, and driving up to Mount Lemmon on the Catalina Highway. No hotel in Tucson is going to be convenient to everything in the city as the attractions are all spread out. You just have to be careful of the area you stay in here, as there are some rough parts of the city.

Although not open to the public, the Staybridge Suites in Tucson is really close to the Lisa Frank Warehouse!

Rooms at the Staybridge Suites Tucson Arizona

My room was great — I had a King Suite. Every room here is a suite, and comes with a full kitchen, sitting area and bathroom. Rooms here were recently remodeled and everything was clean and comfortable. Plenty of charging areas for all of my electronics was nicely appreciated. Oh and best of all — they do daily housekeeping! Woo hoo!

When I stayed here (December 2023), the hotel was finishing up a remodeling job and it looked like most of the guests were placed on the third floor, where the renovated rooms are. I used the stairs a few times and the second floor looked to be under construction.

Fitness Center / Pool / Hot Tub / Laundry

I used the fitness center every day – everything was in working condition, and the equipment was suitable. Treadmill looked a little old so I didn’t bother with it and just used the elliptical, which was fine. The gym is adjacent to the laundry room, which is quite large. I did laundry twice while I was here.

Staybridge Suites offer FREE LAUNDRY (!) to their guests

I didn’t use the outdoor pool or hot tub — it was December and too cold for this — but these facilities looked very nice and are open year-round.

The one thing that I didn’t like was that there was no ice machine. Sometimes that’s the case with extended stay hotels — they give you a full size refrigerator/freezer and expect you to make your own ice. It wasn’t an issue though — I just asked the front desk for some ice for my tiny collapsible cooler that I took with me when I went out exploring.

Breakfast

Breakfast at the Staybridge Suites in Tucson was decent. It’s your average free hotel breakfast but is better than the slop they serve up at comparable Marriott hotels like a Residence Inn (Marriott hotels with free breakfasts are the worst). I loved the yogurt bar here — fresh yogurt with lots of toppings. Decent hot food items like sausages, bacon, and eggs, lots of cereal choices, and fresh fruit.

Evening Social / Free Appetizers / Snacks

Whatever it is they’re calling it these days, thankfully Staybridge Suites has now brought this back (Marriott Residence Inns, your move!). Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, the staff serves free appetizers (which is actually enough food to be a dinner — to me, anyway) in the breakfast area from 5:30pm – 7pm. I absolutely love this, and this was a huge reason why I chose to stay here over other hotels. Especially being that I was going to be here Monday through Thursday — so the only day I was on my own for dinner was Thursday. That’s fine by me. This saves me a lot of money when traveling. One night it was pizza, the other night pulled pork tacos — everything was really good.

While the free evening social was nice at the Tucson Staybridge Suites hotel, if you love free hotel meals, your best bet is a Drury Inn — they do it best!

Staybridge Suites Tucson – Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and I absolutely would recommend it and would definitely stay here again. The only faults I could find were that the gym had equipment that was a bit dated (still worked but the treadmill was questionable), and the fact that there is no ice machine. I always appreciate free dinner/apps as it saves me money. Unfortunately, a few months after I stayed here, I found myself in Tucson again. I wanted to stay here again, but rates were completely outrageous (it was almost $350 a night when I came back in March!), so I had to stay elsewhere.
