Holiday Inn Express – Colby, Kansas Review

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Colby Kansas for one night while on a road trip, heading to Colorado. I booked this hotel the same night of check-in as I was on a road trip with my dog and no plan. Let’s get into my review of the Holiday Inn Express in Colby Kansas!

Holiday Inn Express – Colby Kansas Location

This hotel is located right off of I-70, so it’s in a convenient location for a one-night stay on a road trip, with easy on/off for the freeway. Plenty of restaurants are located in this area – it’s a lot of fast food. I stopped over at Jimmy Johns for dinner. Parking is free and the lot is very spacious.

Additionally, Colby Kansas’ biggest roadside attraction is located just across the highway!

It’s Wheat Jesus, folks. If you stay here, you gotta see it.

Rooms – Holiday Inn Express – Colby, Kansas

I had a two-queen pet-friendly room and I thought it was nice. The room was clean, the beds were comfy and it looked pretty modern. There is a sliding barn down that can close off the area to the bathroom, which I thought was nice. I was traveling solo with my dog, so I didn’t need to use it but I could see it really coming in handy if I were traveling with others. I had a ground floor room, since I was traveling with a dog and didn’t notice any noise from guests above me.

There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room. The beds each had individual reading lights on each side of each bed, which I thought was nice.

I did think that this hotel was expensive for what you get – it clocked in at nearly $200/night. For a small Kansas town in late September, I thought that was excessive. I didn’t have much choice though, as I booked this last minute, on the same day as I wanted to check in. The other pet friendly hotels in Colby had no vacancy and I didn’t want to drive any further, as I had already been on the road for over 11 hours!

Amenities at the Holiday Inn Express in Colby, Kansas

Breakfast was your standard Holiday Inn Express offerings (though no cinnamon rolls) – eggs, the nasty cardboard turkey sausage (all Holiday Inn Express hotels serve this dogshit!), pastries, toast, cereal, etc. Nothing remarkable about the breakfast but nothing bad either.

I used the fitness center twice – in the evening when I arrived and the next morning. It was a very small room, packed wall-to-wall with the cardio machines. It was like a small broom closet – so it got really warm in there. There’s an elliptical, bike and a treadmill. The equipment was okay – I thought the elliptical was a bit wonky in that it shook when you used it and I also didn’t like the treadmill – just like the elliptical, it felt unstable. I ended up spending most of my workout on the bike.

Holiday Inn Express Colby Kansas – Final Thoughts

This was a decent hotel – everything was clean – it’s your standard Holiday Inn Express and nothing more. The pet fee was reasonable at only $25. The fitness center could have better equipment and I thought that in general, the hotel was way more expensive than it should be. Otherwise, I would stay here again.
