Springhill Suites – Green Bay, Wisconsin – A Review

Today, we embark on a delightful journey to the enchanting land of Green Bay, Wisconsin, where cheese reigns supreme, and the Green Bay Packers are the talk of the town. Amidst this football frenzy, I had the pleasure of staying at the Springhill Suites by Marriott. I stayed here for three nights in June. Let’s get into it!

Location

The Springhill Suites in Green Bay is an amazing location if you’re here for a game. It’s within walking distance to Lambeau Field (we did a tour of Lambeau Field but decided to drive over – parking was free but again, this was not a gameday!) We were here in summer, so no Packers game, so I can’t speak to what it’s like on gameday (probably crazy!), or what gameday prices for rooms are (I did see that the rack rate – which is the most amount of money the hotel is allowed to charge for the room – was $2,000!) – so you could be shelling out a lot of money for a room here when the Pack is in town.

Across the street is a brewery and there are a few other restaurants a few blocks over. We didn’t eat at any of the places around in this area, so I can’t comment on them.

Additionally, there are a lot of abandoned parking lots in this area – my guess is that they’re used for tailgating on game days. There’s also a ton of construction going on everywhere (as of summer 2023), but in general, I do think this is a great location and a safe area.

Parking

The hotel is charging a nominal parking fee per day (it’s like $4 so not bad) because of upkeep costs (whatever that means). The parking lot seemed small, but we never had an issue finding a spot. As I mentioned above, there is a lot of abandoned, weed-chocked parking lots around here, so in a pinch, you’ll probably find a spot.

Rooms

We had a king room with a sitting area – so in other words, just a standard room. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, and they honored my request for a top floor room (I hate hearing creaky floor noise from rooms above me!).

The room has two TV sets – one in the bedroom area and another in the sitting area, which I thought was nice. There was a desk with plenty of plug-ins, which came in handy for me, as I needed to work one day. The couch in the seating area is horribly uncomfortable – if you’ve stayed in a newer or recently remodeled Springhill Suites, you’ve probably encountered this terrible piece of furniture.

Oh, the woes of a poorly designed couch! The absence of ergonomics and comfort in this particular piece of West Elm furniture unleashed a barrage of pain upon my unsuspecting back. Its unyielding structure left me contorted in unnatural positions – you cannot get comfortable on this couch. I gave up and just used the bed as my seating/relaxing area.

But my dog seemed to like it.

I didn’t get a photo of the bathroom but it was your standard Springhill bathroom. It had the shower/tub combo, and included the lovely Alice + Co shampoo and body wash products (I love this brand!)

Housekeeping

As of June 2023, housekeeping is done every other day, and only upon request. If you read my other hotel reviews on this site, you know that I am hating this post-COVID trend. However, because we were traveling with our dog, we declined housekeeping, and just requested fresh towels each day.

Pets

The Springhill Suites in Green Bay is a pet-friendly hotel but they do charge a hefty fee. It’s $100 per stay, which if you are staying multiple nights like we were, it can make it a better deal than those hotels that are charging $30-40 a night for a dog. We did stay here with our dog and he enjoyed his stay! There is no designated spot for the dog to go potty, but they do have several grassy areas for your pet to do his business.

Pool Area

I didn’t use the pool or the hot tub, but everything looked very nice.

Breakfast

You’ve got your standard breakfast fare that you’ll find at any Marriott property that offers a free breakfast. It’s not good, but it’s not completely inedible. You’ll get one protein (turkey sausage or pork sausage depending on the day), nasty slimy scrambled eggs swimming in water (blech!), individually wrapped bagels and English muffins (probably for “your safety!” Another post-covid trend I hate!), cereal, yogurt and oatmeal.

The oatmeal was actually pretty good – usually hotels add way too much water to the mix, but here it was thick. The breakfast area is very large with plenty of seating.

I did find that their breakfast hours on the weekend were much shorter than they are at other properties – breakfast is from 7-9:30; lots of Marriotts extend the weekend breakfast until 10.

Bar

You don’t find this in a lot of Springhill Suites, but at the Green Bay location, they have a full bar. So if you’re not feeling up to walking to the brewery across the street, you can just take a stroll down to the lobby and tie one on there.

Fitness Center

It was ok but for some reason, it was also very busy, which, in my experience, is pretty unusual at a hotel like this, especially on weekends. It’s a small room with a few elliptical, a few treadmills and a suitable selection of free weights. The cardio equipment was modern and worked fine – even the attached TVs actually worked. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of the fitness center because I was never alone in there – and who wants to be photographed when working out? Not me!

Final Thoughts

Would I stay here again? Absolutely! I’ve stayed in Green Bay before, and I enjoyed this hotel much more than the ALOFT I stayed at earlier, so I would definitely pick this over the ALOFT. I’m not a fan of the vibes at ALOFT – plus, they started charging a pet fee. The location here is great, especially if you’re here to tour Lambeau Field (I highly recommend, even as a Vikings fan!).
