Worlds Largest Jackalope Exhibit – Country Store Travel Stop and Gas Station: Dubois, WY

Who said buying gas can’t be fun? The fine folks at the Exxon gas station in Dubois, Wyoming think so! It’s not just any gas station, you see. This Exxon gas station houses (one of the) World’s Largest Jackalopes. And since it’s right on the way to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, you’ll want to make it a point to stop here and snap some pics. If you love goofy roadside attractions, you’ve come to the right place!

Visiting the jackalope exhibit is free. They have a pretty kick ass gift shop here, so you might be tempted to buy some jackalope merch.

Time Commitment: 10-30 minutes, depending on how into Jackalopes you are – the gift shop is huge.

Visiting the Giant Jackalope in Dubois, Wyoming

The Exxon gas station and truck stop’s claim-to-fame is that they house the world’s largest Jackalope Exhibit. I can’t confirm or deny this, as I haven’t seen enough Jackalope exhibits upon which to base a comparison. So, I’ll take their word for it, I guess.

Before you actually get to the Jackalope, you have to walk through the entire store — which isn’t a bad thing. Now, this store has your basic mini mart favorites: refrigerators full of 16oz sodas and energy drinks, “big grab” bags of Lays potato chips, freezers full of GoodHumor items like Chipwhiches and Drumsticks. That kind of thing.

But don’t reach for a bag of Cheetos while you’re here — this place is stocked full of delicious homemade treats! Fudge, assorted chocolate candies, buffalo jerky, take-n-bake pies, homemade ice cream in oddball flavors…etc., so put back that King Cone. You can get those anywhere.

We probably wasted a good 30 minutes here. First, we had to check out all the hokey Jackalope-themed souvenirs. There was an entire room full of them. Then we had to decide what kind of treat we wanted. And finally, meet the the Legend of the West himself.

The World’s Largest Jackalope in Dubois, Wyoming is not easy to climb. They have a stepping stool to climb on the Jackalope’s back, but it really isn’t tall enough for us shawties. You have to put your foot in the straddle strap and then hoist your other leg over the Jackalope’s back. Sure, it sounds easy, but it was very awkward and we made quite the production out of this seemingly easy task. We probably looked pretty ridiculous to any locals that might’ve been in the store.  This wasn’t easy for us city girls who’ve never even ridden a horse before!
After our Jackalope photoshoot, we headed out of the store and spotted another Jackalope outside.

As much as we love goofy roadside attractions like this, we had our fill of saddling up on Jackalopes for the day. This guy didn’t have a stepping stool. So we just snapped some pics and called it a day.
