Tips for visiting Angel Oak Tree: John’s Island, South Carolina
The Angel Oak Tree is located inside of a park in a (somewhat) residential neighborhood on a dirt road. It’s quite the sight to see!

Details:
Location:
3688 Angel Oak Rd, Johns Island, SC 29455
Hours and admission:
The park is only open from 9am-5pm and has high fencing around it to prevent after-hours debauchery. The park is free and has port-a-potties on-site. So if you’re prone to wetting yourself upon seeing weird, natural oddities, you’ll want to go before you see this colossal tree. It’s that big. You will wet your pants.
Time Commitment: 30 minutes or less

Visiting the Angel Oak Tree
The Angel Oak Tree is enormous. The branches extended all around the ground and curling up in the air. It’s crazy. Pictures don’t do it justice – I was glad I had my fisheye lens with me — it was the only way I could capture the majority of entire tree in one photo – it’s that big. We visited in December (off-season), but we still had plenty of company by the tree. You’ll be hard-pressed to get a people-free photo of the tree (some of the photos on this post might look people-free, but they’re not. They’re just hard to see as the lens is so wide – and some are cleverly cropped).

There are signs posted all around the tree, telling you not to climb it or carve on it. It kind of takes away from the beauty of the tree, though I can see why the signs are there — in our short visit, we saw plenty of idiots trying to climb the tree.
There’s also a tiny gift shop, selling random Angel Oak Tree paraphernalia and those sea grass baskets that are found in every gift shop in the region.
The Angel Oak Tree is a must-see if you’re in the Charleston, SC area!
