Best Western Space Age Lodge Hotel Review: Gila Bend, Arizona
I love kitschy alien crap. I’m drawn to hitting up places like the Extraterrestrial Highway and Roswell, New Mexico. And if you’ve read other posts on this blog, you’ll know that my sister and I have a fondness for wearing alien sunglasses on our trips. It’s a standard prop in our suitcase and we never leave home without them.
So of course I made it a point to stay at the Best Western Space Age Lodge Hotel when we visited Organ Pipe National Monument. We absolutely loved the quirky alien theming and thought the rooms were very nice. Here is my review of the Best Western Space Age Lodge in Gila Bend, Arizona.

Rooms:
We stayed in a two queen bed room. This is a motorcourt-style motel and you can park right outside your room. The room was large and looked like it had been recently renovated.

The shower was odd – other worldly, even. It was very difficult to figure out how to turn it on and off. I don’t know why hotels have to make such simple tasks so difficult. At night, avoid opening the door with your lights on or you’ll find lots of little bugs in your room.

Restaurant at the Best Western Space Age Lodge
The reviews for this restaurant are downright scary. It made me very leery to eat here – upon check-in, you are given a voucher for free breakfast at the restaurant for everyone in your party. The breakfast selection is extremely limited, but it’s actually much better than any standard free hotel breakfast. It’s made to order and they use REAL eggs. We both had pancakes with sausage patties and they were delicious. You won’t get any fancy presentation – don’t expect to be Instagramming your breakfast here – they just slap down your eggs and sausages on a plate and call it a day.

The staff here seemed like they were phoning it in, completely disinterested in their jobs. I would not eat here for dinner – most of the terrible reviews out there are about their lunch and dinner dishes. We ate dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant and it was fantastic.

Best Western Space Age Hotel – Pros and Cons
Pros:
Kitschy space theme
Free REAL breakfast in the restaurant
Large, clean rooms
Cons:
Restaurant staff is indifferent
Not much around in Gila Bend, Arizona
Could’ve leaned into the space theme a little more IMO
